The Right Computer Rental PC/Laptop for You

We at A&T Computer Rentals have produced a short guide to help you choose the right computer rental PC for your needs. If you don’t know which specification of rental computer is best for you, please give our sales team a call and we can assess your rental requirements and match you with the right computer. In this section we aim to cover the different variables that can make all the difference to the desktop or laptop rental computer you require.

Processor

We at A&T offer a wide range of processors currently between 1.6Ghz and 3.2Ghz in our rental equipment. Choosing the right processor will depend on the type of work the PC or Laptop is required for. As a rough guide:

• If you are using simple office applications such as basic Microsoft Word and Excel a 1.6 Ghz Centrino Processor would be more than sufficient.
• If you are doing a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation with multimedia content we would recommend a basic Core Duo 1. 6hz laptop. Core Duo 1.6 Ghz is a good mid range machine and will handle most every day applications.
• Some of the latest Microsoft training courses and CAD and Video editing can require a heavy workload and we currently (12/10/10) supply up to 3.4 Ghz and Quad Core Processors (Ring for latest speeds)

Memory

We at A&T find that in some cases users can never have enough RAM, the more we put in the faster the Rental PC will operate. The speed of the processor and the amount of memory generally go hand in hand. Our engineers have carefully balanced the amount of RAM they believe to be required with each of our Desktops and Laptops. One example of this a HP D7800 Core2 2.66GHz desktop which when purchased only comes with 2 RAM as factory standard. A&T increased this up to a generous 4GB as our standard, with the Option of an 8GB Upgrade.

The Faster the processor you need the higher the memory we include; we currently offer between 1GB RAM and 8GB in our rental PC’s and Laptops. Please look at out products page for more details on the memory supplied with each machine.

• 1GB is now the minimum amount of RAM that a user should consider when using a PC or Laptop. Windows XP and Microsoft Office would run along nicely on this amount of RAM.
• 2GBMB is a good level of RAM for running multiple applications and multimedia PowerPoint slides shouldn’t lag.
• 1GB of RAM is required for some of the latest Microsoft based training course and helps speed along video editing tools.
• 8GB of RAM can be supplied in our latest laptops and PC’s. Microsoft Virtual PC courses running multiple operating systems can consume this amount of memory.

Hard Disk Drives

We offer various size Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in our desktop PCs and laptops computer rentals ranging from 40GB to 500GB. Every day office documents will take up minimal space and 40GB should be more than enough. MSDN and Visual studio courses can require a lot of space. Video editing can also require big drives. Our high end Sony rental notebooks with video editing come with large HDD’s. If you are running your own software please advise our rental sales team of the minimum specification and we will provide you with the right rental machine.

Graphics

Todays applications can require a 3D graphics card to operate. We can provide additional graphics cards and advise you on a suitable card for your application, we currently stock ATI and Nvidia Cards with up to 1GB of onboard memory using the latest PCI express.

Removable Media and Drives.

We supply our Rental PCs, Desktops and Laptop rentals with CD-RW as standard. This helps to copy your small data files like word and excel for keeping at the end of the rental. In our latest rental laptops we provide DVD-RW capability so you can burn larger data files to DVD. We also offer DVD-RW drives on our desktops computer rentals as an upgrade, please, call our sales team for prices and more information.

A growing number of our laptops and PCs come with multiple card readers, allowing SD, Memory stick and other memory card formats. Let us now if this is a key component of your laptop or PC rental and we will advise on the best solution.

Internet Connection

All of our laptop rental computers now come with WiFi Wireless. Wireless cards can also be installed for a desktop PC rental. Internet access in the office is now commonly supplied over standard Ethernet Cat 5 cabling and all of our rental PCs and laptops come with Ethernet network cards as standard. We also include the latest fully security patched version of Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser. Additional ADSL or ISDN equipment can be provided if you have a different type of internet connection in your office of venue. We can also provide Wireless mobile phone dongles for access when away from the office.
